Singh Barristers has integrated corporate social responsibility into its business model, which is a form of corporate self-regulation. In this way we are able to monitor and ensure that we are in active compliance of the law, ethical standards and international business norms. Besides compliance with laws and regulations which governs our profession, we go beyond the interests of the firm and that which is required by law.
Singh Barristers has embraced a corporate policy which is aimed at making a positive impact with all stakeholders, including the environment, consumers, our employees, the judiciary and the legal profession. We take responsibility for our actions knowing that we must not only be fully accountable to our clients and the Law Society of Upper Canada, but to our global community as well.
We have adopted the principles set out in the United Nations Global Compact, which is a UN initiative to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation. At Singh Barristers we are confident that we will be able to sustain our continued support for the ten principles laid down by the United Nations which aims to improve human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
HUMAN RIGHTS
At Singh Barristers we support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights. We do not do business with agencies or corporations that directly or indirectly engage in human rights abuses.
LABOUR STANDARDS
We uphold and protect the freedom of association and we recognize the right to collective bargaining. We condemn all forms of forced and compulsory labour by refusing to do business with corporations or agencies who are engaged in these practices. Singh Barristers also condemns discrimination in employment and occupations and we have internal safeguards to ensure that we uphold the principles set out by the United Nations.
ENVIRONMENT
We support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges by encouraging the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. Our offices are located in a building that has Advance Geothermal and Solar Energy System, which uses solar panels to reduce operating, heating and cooling costs. We have carefully selected this location for our corporate headquarters as this building is a certified LEED building. LEED Canada has been redefining the way we work and live.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a third-party certification program and an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Because we care about the environment our mission from the outset was to occupy a building that was certified as a “green building” by the Canada Green Building Council. As part of our corporate social responsibility of protecting the environment we are confident that our offices are healthier, cleaner and energy efficient thereby drastically reducing our carbon footprint on the planet.
